In 2017, at the Iowa State Fair, 15-year-old Mitchell Miner was found napping alongside his cow, Audri. According to a USATODAY article from August 15, 2017, Mitchell had been waking up at 3 AM each day to care for and prepare Audri for the fair. He devoted all his time to walking her, grooming her, and ensuring she was well-fed.

Mitchell had spent most of his time with Audri, who had been lent to him by a dairy farm in Blairstown. It’s no wonder they developed such a strong connection! During the agricultural fair, Mitchell shared with the media that Audri “loved to lie down.” Even he was amazed by the bond they had formed in such a short time.

In the end, Audri placed fifth out of the seven contestants in the competition.

While they didn’t win first place, the boy and his cow are a genuine example of the emotional bond that can develop between an animal and its caretaker.
